I don’t use Pidgin and don’t keep up with its development, but a group of developers have forked it, starting Funpidgin.

QUOTE(http://funpidgin.sourceforge.net)
What makes us different from the official client, is that we work for you. Unlike the Pidgin developers, we believe the user should have the final say in what goes into the program.

This came about after Pidgin refused to allow manual text-field resizing, apparently the latest in a string of accusations that the lead developers develop for themselves rather than for the users.

I’m not making judgments, but I’m glad the Funpidgin folks have the option of forking, although such a reliance on the users’ opinions makes me wary. (Users are not designers, and neither are developers.)
