So, my Orchestra teacher of two years died a couple months ago after her battle with cancer. So now we have a new conductor, who doesn't play strings, and can't teach us anything. So I want to drop out and go to some other elective in the same period, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea in the long run.
Yesterday was the end of the semester, so if I want to continue orchestra in high school, I'd have to complete the next two quarters.

I'm not sure wether to stay in and learn nothing, or drop out and have some fun.
Any advice?

How long have you been in the course? If I recall at least when I was in high school you had about 30 days or something to drop out of a course without it affecting your scores (it just got removed completly). But if you drop out after that time period then you basically fail it and it shows up in your record, which will then look bad when you apply to college or look for a job.

I would talk to the principal about it and see what can be done.

Yeah, I'd talk with a guidance counselor or the principal or whoever. Given the circumstances they might be able to work something out for you.

I talked to the counselor, and I've decide to take a computers course in place of Orchestra. Which means I'll probably be here more often!
