Charlie’s uptime was a little over 70 days with Ubuntu, and now she has reached her one hundredth day with Debian.
CODE chris@charlie:~$ uptime 01:30:20 up 100 days, 46 min, 3 users, load average: 0.23, 0.34, 0.23 While my system has been up for 100 days, my current GNOME session has only lasted since 12 September, or 89 days. CODE chris@charlie:~$ who chris tty7 2009-09-12 20:01 (:0) chris pts/0 2009-11-14 21:35 (:0.0) chris pts/1 2009-09-12 20:09 (:0.0) My computer has idled for a cumulative 19 days, which is 19% of the system uptime. CODE chris@charlie:~$ cat /proc/uptime 8643155.73 1648600.46 I still have some RAM to spare. CODE chris@charlie:~$ free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3991016 2607336 1383680 0 98128 758256 -/+ buffers/cache: 1750952 2240064 Swap: 3903480 3312 3900168 I have suspended my computer 365 times CODE chris@charlie:~$ grep 'ACPI: Preparing to enter system sleep state S3' /var/log/messages | wc -l 365 What really matters: Process-specific uptimes. . Notice how one of my most used programs, Epiphany, has one of the shortest uptimes. I check my uptime a lot. I put a very strong emphasis on reliability and stability. (Before anyone says anything, I have the latest DSAs in my feed aggregator, and I know what security vulnerabilities are in my kernel.) One hundred days of uptime is not a big deal for a server, but I think it’s pretty nice for a laptop. I was happy with Ubuntu, but I’m even happier with Debian stable. (Honestly, I get a perverse pleasure from using GNOME 2.22 when everyone else is using GNOME 2.28.) Hopefully there won’t be a bug or kernel vulnerability that makes me restart before Squeeze. -------------------- E-mail, XMPP: chris@chrisvogel.name (OpenPGP)

haha I'm an uptime nazi as well. My online server actually hit 1 year a while back, then it crapped out the day after. I pushed an update to one of my apps and guess I did not test it well enough. Had a memory leak and it just took all the ram. My home servers have only a few days since I recently relocated them. I *could* of done it live, but decided not to.

My TrackPoint stopped working today. I never use that stupid thing, but I do use the three buttons below the space bar. I tried reloading the kernel module, or at least what I think was the kernel module.
CODE sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse It froze up. My uptime is now 15 minutes. -------------------- E-mail, XMPP: chris@chrisvogel.name (OpenPGP)

Oh that sucks, when it's something silly like that and you have to reboot. Did the reboot at least fix it?
I remember my DSL modem had an uptime of like 300 days and I rebooted it and it did not fix my issue, that was a bummer. -------------------- |

QUOTE(Red Squirrel @ Dec 23 2009, 06:13 PM) Oh that sucks, when it's something silly like that and you have to reboot. Did the reboot at least fix it? Yes. Sometime this week I’m going to go through my logs and try to find out what happened. -------------------- E-mail, XMPP: chris@chrisvogel.name (OpenPGP)

That's the nice thing about Linux, at least there's half decent logs most of the time. When Windows craps out for no reason, it rarely leaves any trace of what even happened. Maybe an event log entry that is completely meaningless.
