I'm in the hole by a few grand for my house renovations and won't be able to afford to pay my contractor. I'm looking into quick ways to make some cash, and I've been thinking of stuff I can sell.

As I am so busy IRL with my house among other projects such as my game server this site has been very neglected by me hence the lack of updates as far as template and what not goes. Also a huge lack of promotion so it's been quite dead.

I think this site has quite a lot of potential if more time is put into it so perhaps a new owner could make it better, at least I would hope, and not just totally scrap and do something else.

Now I kind of feel bad thinking of doing this and don't want to give existing members the shaft, I really hope that if I do sell it the new owner makes it better and keeps existing members/database. If I did go ahead and sell it I would give more details as the deal progresses, and I would encourage everyone to make an account at iceteks.com to at least get back to a different forum in the event that the new owner scraps this one.

So what does everyone think about this idea? I won't do it if most people are against. I don't want to do this as a selfish act.

I wish you well on your house. If selling this forum will help, do it. I’m grateful for all that you’ve done for the AF.

That being said, is there a market? How likely is it that you even could sell it?

I'm not really entirely against selling AF if you could find the right buyer, but much like Chris, I question what kind of market there is out there for a site like this.

I am setting a pretty steep minimum price so really not sure if anyone will even want to pay that or not. I imagine the domain may have some value though.

Yeah, you could always just sell off the name and call AF something else.

I check in from time to time, but this isn't one of my regular forums anymore, so I would have no objections to a sale if you can get some money.

The site has NOT been sold.

I may try again in the future, but I will announce at that time.

I would like to eventually get this forum going on my own though. I know with a new site template, some more forum features, and some more advertising, we could get way more members here.

Could be interesting, sprucing things up a bit. Might even possibly liven things up around here... maybe. What did you have in mind?

Not sure, I really don't have the time, that's the issue, but basically I'd just make a better looking template for the front page, and possibly a new forum template. Though a template for a IPB forum takes lot of time to make.

I know. You could offer a year's worth of computer services to any new members. Then after they join, you could hit them with the fine print. greengrin.gif

Anything new yet? AF going back on the market soon? Or some sprucing up?

No did not sell it, and probably will not. I just wanted to try as a one time thing as I badly needed the money at the time.

To some extent, I basically just took a loan instead. I still owe about 10k to Citi. tongue.gif

Rule of thumb with construction: It's going to cost at least 20% more then initially estimated.

Yeah well 5k for my construction loan (started off as 7k) and 5k for furniture. As long as I pay the furniture off by September (which is coming fast) it is interest free. I will be cashing my shares soon when they open up so that will give me about 5-6k hopefully, then my bonus should be about 1k and my taxes a bit over 1k so that will give me give or take 7k to put on the loans.

Once they're paid then I wont be in debt anymore other then the mortgage, so it will be nice! I can start buying toys again. greengrin.gif

a site like this you wouldn't be able to sell because anyone can start a little-used forum and run it tongue.gif

anyway, if you want, red, i can take over administration of the site. i run three other sites as it is, and as an original AF founder i have intereste in keeping this baby up and running.

Well the value is mostly in the domain, the site itself would have been just a bonus.

I still need to make a skin for this site one day. But think I will just wait till I find the time to finish SBBS. IPB 2.0 is teh suxor when it comes to making skins.
