how does the author know for sure that they are just metaphors and not literal. The author just seems to be taking it for granted that these are metaphors, which doesn't seem in the least bit different than me taking it for granted that they are literal.

I do have to admit though, that even though literalness was drilled into me growing up, I have come to realize that literature of the Biblical timeframe did use more . . . expressiveness than a hard-core literalist might like to admit. So while I am still a literist, I do like to keep a bit of my mind open to other explanations, such as your link provided.

which can we interpret as literal or metaphor in this text?

Hebrews 10:16

"THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,"

will the Lord 'literally write them on our minds'? - or is it a metaphor?
I was looking back at this thread and noticed this question you asked me almost two years ago. Writing something on our minds is certainly a metaphoric way of expressing that God will be putting something in our minds.

QUOTE
what then of the 'laws' is it a metaphor or literal?
I'm trying to figure out exactly what a metaphoric law would look like. I suppose it would be a term for God's general instructions rather than some specific indtruction. Either way, it would still be refering to something that God expects of His followers.

QUOTE
If 'evil' or 'sin' is the absence of 'God' or 'truth' where is God then to be absent, is God absent of "heart and mind" OR absent from a written text'

I'm not sure I even understand this question. I would say sin is more of a rebellion against God rather than an absence of God.

QUOTE
1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
This is refering to believers in Christ, and I do think that there is a literal indwelling of God's Spirit in believers. The concept of "temple" is a metaphoric way of expressing the literal reality of the indwelling.

QUOTE
Where then is Truth? literally  or metaphorically

Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
